Business Officer, Technology Solutions

PATH seeks a Business Officer in the Water, Sanitation, Air-Quality and Hygiene (WASH) group within the Technology Solutions program to contribute to the commercialization, introduction and uptake of important health technologies and services. The Business Officer will help lead and contribute to the overall business planning and strategic analysis and manage and implement activities including the development of commercialization strategies, negotiation of legal agreements, market research and field implementation for individual projects. They will also lead and assist with identifying and managing relationships with manufacturing , distribution and financing partners to ensure wide-scale access to important health products.
In addition to serving as part of the Seattle WASH team, the Business Officer will also be required to work closely with the global WASH team in countries where PATH operates. Given PATH's highly team-oriented culture, a commitment to communication and teamwork is a primary expectation. Under the guidance of the Senior Business Officer, the Business Officer will undertake specific responsibilities as follows:
  • Drive commercialization, financing and market-development strategies and business models for health related products and services.
  • Work closely with the Senior Business Officer and PATH leadership to create and refine a viable platform for the development, introduction and financing of innovative health technologies.
  • Act as the primary in-field commercialization liaison with PATH global staff to communicate, educate, and advise teams on commercial negotiation, partnering strategy and selection, operational implementation, and best practice documentation of field-based projects.
  • Manage effort to identify, engage and support field-based implementation and financing partners. Provide guidance and assist these partners in developing business models targeted at low-income populations and build relationships with other stakeholders and local leaders that support and engage with these business models.
  • Develop, communicate and implement a bridge for field partners between product development, financial and business due diligence, and product launch activities to build entrepreneurial success in support of sustainable and scalable solutions.
  • Lead on- ground implementation efforts as appropriate and coordinate with other on- ground, external stakeholders to optimize and align learning and impact across stakeholders.
  • Develop tools, processes and metrics utilized by implementation and financing partners for use in developing markets for health technologies. Participate in the exposure of these tools to the community of practice through an online toolkit and leverage these approaches and tools as appropriate with in-field partners and stakeholders as necessary.
  • Provide support for program growth including leading, developing, or contributing to proposals, donor and partner relationship building, or other responses to grant opportunities.
  • Represent WASH and PATH at conferences, events, and in meetings as appropriate.
Required Skills

  • Fluency in English, including excellent written and oral English, as well as diplomacy when communicating with a broad and diverse audience.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Experience
Master's degree in business or related subjects, plus a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in business operations, finance and entrepreneurial start-up and implementation. Experience in working in a developing-country business environment or implementing solutions in global environments. Demonstrated ability and experience in negotiating with private sector organizations and experience in working across sectors. Experience cultivating relationships with multiple partners and stakeholders and managing their information needs and requests. Prior experience working in the area of water, and/or global health, and/or working in developing countries is desired.
