The Information Technology department supports the organization's work by providing reliable and scalable application development and infrastructure for the IRC's offices in the US and around the world, including many technologically challenging locations.
SCOPE
The Senior Systems Engineer is based at IRC's headquarters in New York City and is primarily responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of IT infrastructure, including multiple datacenters, virtualized server infrastructure, Active Directory, Citrix, web and database application servers, DNS/DHCP/WSUS/enterprise antivirus systems. Extensive experience with availability-monitoring and disaster recovery are required. The Senior Systems Engineer will also serve as the backup to the Senior Network Engineer and should possess CLI-level experience with Cisco IOS to manage routers, firewalls and switches.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage existing global network architecture (Active Directory forest, WAN, etc.)
- Assist with creation of policies and procedures
- Ensure network security through appropriate controls, policies, and deployment of systems (Antivirus, SPAM and web content filters, etc.); perform regular audits
- Develop and maintain network login scripts and group policies for managing desktop environment and deploying applications
- Configure and maintain server hardware (approximately 100 servers), Windows Operating Systems and applications and maintain Active Directory, DNS and other essential Windows services
- Serve as backup to Sr. Network Engineer to administer Cisco switches, routers, VPN, and ASA devices (firewall rules, site-to-site VPNs, software updates, etc.)
- Deploy and maintain Citrix for local and remote access of legacy applications
- Manage multiple VMWare server farms
- Monitor network resources 24/7 via centralized apps to pre-empt or respond to outages
- Recommend, spec and manage the implementation of infrastructure and applications
- Ensure high availability and redundancy of data and systems; implement disaster recovery to support the IRC's Business Continuity Plan.
- Provide network strategy, documentation and training to organization and IT department
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with IRC department/office managers, IT contractors and key vendors
REQUIREMENTS
- Ten years work experience in a professional IT environment
- MCSE or equivalent experience, must have extensive, in-depth knowledge of Active Directory
- CCNE or demonstrated equivalent experience
- Experience with all of the following required: VMWare, Citrix, MS Scripting, Group Policy administration, Backup Exec, MS Exchange, Cisco IOS routing and switching, WSUS, IIS, MS SQL Administration
- Experience with any of the following desired: Riverbed WAN optimization appliances, Linux/NGINX web platform, Nagios network monitoring systems
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and efficiently organize the workflow of a fast-paced team
- Ability to track and process multiple issues simultaneously and accurately
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: the ability to effectively liaise with a variety of colleagues in a diverse multi-cultural environment
- Self-starter attitude with a sense of urgency, commitment, and the desire to succeed.
- This position may require occasional travel to developing countries
This is a full-time position at our New York, NY headquarters. Relocation assistance is not available. Salary commensurate with experience.
